WILMA TOWNSHIP BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ ROAD INSPECTION, MAY 22, 2018

WILMA TOWNSHIP BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ ROAD INSPECTION, MAY 22, 2018

Chairman Glen Williamson called the meeting to order at the Duxbury Store at 10 a.m. Also present were Supervisors Gary Vink and Mike McCullen, Clerk Paul Raymond, and for portions of the inspection, Danforth Supervisor Jason Palme and resident Todd Matuska, and Pat Story. Road Manager Alden Shute had done an independent inspection and provided his report.

CROOKED LAKE ROAD: Jason Palme, Danforth Supervisor, joined us for Crooked Lake Road along with Todd Matuska. We need gravel over the hill by Mullens. The low spot between Jason’s and Annenberg’s gets water and south of Annenberg’s and between Palme’s and Mullen’s. The road needs gravel over the hill to Jason’s driveway 1 mile in. Water covers the road and needs ditching and gravel. Jason said Danforth has agreed for us to use as much gravel as we need, up to $20,000, $10,000 each. 10 loads by Mullens. Needs to be built up with pit run first, then class 5. Five loads pit-run and 5 loads class 5 or red rock or crushed concrete. Mike said we need to put down black matting fabric and then the pit run and then class 5 to keep it from sinking and raise the low spot at the culvert. Glen said he wants us to experiment with both red crushed rock from Roberts in Askov and with crushed concrete on some roads to see if it hold up better than class 5. Jason said the roads needs ditching south of his driveway on the west side. There are buried power lines so need to call Gofer One first. 4-wheelers made big ruts in the road when it was under water. Glen said that from the beginning of the swamp area south of the hill to tell Hopkins pit run uncrushed gravel. At 1.4 miles (¼ mile north of Matuska’s driveway 58131) there are deep ruts and mud and cars can’t get through in the spring. At 1.7 miles the road needs two loads pit run and one load at the top of the hill at the end of Crooked Lake Road by Thunder Meadow. Needs a culvert and pit run at the bottom of the hill, 20” x 30′ culvert and 3 loads pit run to cover culvert. Glen said at Thunder Meadow need a layer of class 5.

At 52502 at the swampy area need to put down black matting and pit run and gravel, and ditched on the west side. Mike said that any netting has to have 6” of gravel over it, either pit-run or class 5. Jason said that at ½ mile the road gets soupy every year and he gets stuck. At the spot with the two culverts it gets soft between the culverts and needs 6 loads of class 5 on top of 2-3 loads of pit run. Alden will need to get an estimate for all this gravel and netting and prices for red rock and crushed concrete. Jason said if the estimate is more than $20,000 he can bring it to the Danforth board.

EAGLE HEAD ROAD: Routine blading. Alden wants to brush the west side to the first culvert. Needs one load class 5 at 1/10 mile; 2 loads pit run at the very end of Eagle Head. Mike said for short areas of brushing we can use a chain saw or weed-whip with a beaver blade.

LOST RIVER ROAD: 1 load class 5 at the beginning of the road. Pat Story joined us and said the roundabout cul-de-sac gets mushy as it doesn’t drain properly. Mike said Alden can pull gravel from the outside into the inside to build up the inside of the roundabout so it slants down to the northwest and drains. Pull the gravel from the NW side into the inside. Needs 3 loads gravel. There is a tree at Rogstad’s leaning over the road on the west side at the curve. We can write Rogstad and ask him to cut it.

RIVER CABIN ROAD: Routine blading. Pat said the brush is overgrown so you can’t read the fire numbers. The cul-de-sac at the end has gotten smaller. Mike said Alden can blade it down on the outside where grass has grown up and should put down 3 – 4 loads of class 5 so it’s the original width.

SHORT ROAD: (no gravel) Blade to dig up the grass. Routine blading.

MONA DRIVE: Alden says 2 loads of class 5 between Storvik’s and the next place. Blade the cul-de-sac at the end. Routine blading.

KENNY PETERSON ROAD: Routine blading. Bring gravel back on road.

MAYFIELD ROAD: Routine blading. Gary said to find out if we got paid for all the logging on the Mayfield Road last year.

LITTLE TAMARACK LAKE ROAD: Routine blading. One load class five at the first dock. Three loads on the boat landing and the entrance to the landing. Glen said to use ¾ “ crushed rock at the landing.

DOLLAR LAKE ROAD: Alden said he wants to shape the road and install a culvert at the swamp, and raise the road with pit run 8 – 10“ and top with class 5. The board says NO culvert and don’t need to raise the road but can apply 2-3 loads of class 5 on the whole road.

VINK ROAD: Brush the first ¼ mile. Routine blading and blade side gravel back on to the road.

MC CULLEN DRIVE: Put in new 10” x 30′ culvert to replace the damaged plastic culvert in first part of road and gravel to cover it. Routine blading. After Quady’s need 3-4 loads of class 5 or red rock from Roberts. Blade out the ruts and then 3 -4- loads of red rock or class 5. Continue to blade all the way to the end of the road at Zanoskos’.

HELLER DRIVE: First 1/8 mile (about 100 yards in) the road is low and needs 2 loads class five. Regular blading.

TAMARACK PINE DRIVE: Regular blading. One load class 5 in front of Mark’s place, before the driveway, and another load after the driveway.

LANGSTROM LANE: Arna’s year. Alden did go on their road inspection Saturday. They will put 2 loads of class 5 at the start of the road to cover the exposed corduroy, and we will ask them to put 2 loads at Dennis’ driveway.

PETE ANDERSON ROAD: We still have not done the proposed and approved $3,000 from last year to ditch from Duxbury Road to establish ditch past high ground. Alden is trying to get a contractor to bid on the ditching. Pete Anderson was built in a swamp with a corduroy base, and sticks from the corduroy are poking up through the road from 1/10 mile. At Arna’s inspection Saturday they agreed to put gravel at the beginning ¼ mile. At 1 mile needs 1 load Class 5. At Squib Creek the gravel has washed off the road onto the west side. The big culvert is eroding and needs rip rap or big rock. The road sign and stop sign are gone and Paul needs to notify the highway department.

FUST LANE: Routine blading. No gravel.

SCHMEDEKE LANE AND EXTENSION: Complete extension. If big pile at end of extension could be pushed to the sides of the road the extension would be 20′ longer.

SOUTH DUNCAN ROAD: At 53734 at the blue gate 1 load pit run and load of class 5. Level the ruts with the blade.

NORTH DUNCAN ROAD: Routine blading. Put new culvert at 57392 where water constantly runs over the road, and pit-run gravel to cover. At the end where the grass starts need to build up the road with 5 loads of pit-run gravel. The culvert at Peno’s is exposed and needs to be covered. From the last gate on the west side to Peno’s driveway need 5 loads of gravel spread.

MINK FARM ROAD: Routine blading. Brush the swamp.

Meeting adjourned at 4:30.
